Challenging our Engineering Prowess

Our customer required a pair of aluminum low volume injection molds to be built to a basic part design for a new motorcycle battery.  The customer was knowledgeable on the internal battery features of the product, but needed guidance on the plastic enclosure design.  The end product would need to be lightweight yet strong enough to survive the rigors of motorcycle racing.

Midwest Mold’s Solution

Midwest Mold’s low volume injection mold designer went to work developing a part design that would be feasible to manufacture while providing the features desired by the customer.  Once the part design was finalized and approved, the tools were built and parts provided for testing.  The parts passed the testing and were put into the field for evaluation.  Based upon feedback from the field, a second generation of battery was developed.  This next generation of battery also required two additional sizes, based upon the same part design.  The customer had very tight budget constraints, so it was necessary to develop common tool details in order to provide all three battery sizes cost effectively.

Midwest Mold’s Results

The tools were completed and the battery enclosures surpassed expectations.  The customer was able to bring the batteries to market and has experienced a successful launch into a very specialized market.
