Moldmakers Profit by Developing Niche Areas

of ExpertiseTopic of Focus

Nothing can add more power to your business than concentrating all your energies on a limited set of targets. Creating competitive differentiation is a three-word action phrase that can sum up the strategies of two leading-edge moldmaking companies located in Southeast Michigan: Midwest Mold Services & Eifel Mold & Engineering.

Although unrelated, these two moldmaking companies have integrated a unique blend of technology, innovation, human capital investment and process focus to build substantial market niches. Eifel Mold & Engineering, known best for its automotive interior molds, and Midwest Mold Services, known for its innovative production-based aluminum molds, have both channeled and focused their available resources on becoming really great suppliers to the customers they serve. Although many executives feel they are great suppliers to their customers, few have invested so heavily and taken on the business risks of becoming totally immersed and laser concentrated on narrowly defined market niches.

As most moldmaking executives continually search for ways to separate themselves from the pack, both Eifel Mold and Midwest Mold have found that developing superior knowledge bases and becoming identified as lead authorities in their market segments can lead to enriched growth and new business opportunities. Common to both company management teams is the journey out of the great recession to the present. Critical business conditions forced both to shatter long-standing paradigms of being generally good vendors in large market places to being great partners in small market niches.

Midwest Mold’s expertise in mold and tool building makes us very competitive with rapid prototyping and low volume services. In the case of rapid prototyping, many companies find that low volume tooling can fit their need for sample parts with a more economical solution. For example, instead of getting only three SLA/SLS/3DP parts for $3,000, you may be able to get 100 parts for the same $3,000 investment using low volume tooling. A combination of technology investments, coupled with our employees experiences in short run injection molding, allow us to be competitive. We understand that each customer has different expectations established for his or her program and its our job to listen and suggest the most cost effective and attainable ways of achieving it. Timing, quality, price range, materials, volume, and design are all critical factors that when weighed out to the full extent can determine which is the best choice for you. Questions or comments? Feel free to respond to this post and connect with Midwest Mold!

WE ALL HAVE TO MAKE CHANGES

At Midwest Mold, we understand that changes are constant and our customers have different goals and objectives for their products. Whether they’re an engineering change in our case or a personal change made to better yourself, we all go through them.

What types of changes have you made recently? Whether it be business, lifestyle, or social feel free to share! Were you happy with the change? Do you think you would do it again? What type of results occurred from the changes?  Midwest has gone through some significant changes so far in 2014 and were not stopping there!

Midwest has purchased 3 brand new machines in the 2014 year. Take a look at our new CNC machine cutting through high grade material like a warm butter knife!

We are reinvesting back into ourselves. Adding employees, training, and equipment to further improve our process and overall customer satisfaction.

We have put more emphasis into 3D printing capabilities to expand our product offerings.

We are adjusting internal job duties and responsibilities to remain as efficient and proactive as possible.

The big picture? Overall, these changes were the right thing to do for Midwest Mold in order to keep providing our customers with quality and value filled plastic injection molds and parts. We’re excited for the future ahead and remember, if you’re going to change make sure it’s a change for the better!
